Gabrielle O. Starkes Kicks Off Black Children's Book Week

Gabrielle O. Starkes kicked off Black Children's Book Week by reading stories focused on black historic people in S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math). Each story taught the listener about important people in history who changed the lives of many around the world.

Gabrielle read five stories from the book series by author and illustrator, Vashti Harrison - Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History and Little Legends: Exceptional Men in Black History. She also read the book Sulwe by actress and Oscar winner, Lupita Nyong'o.

Black Children's Book Week was held February 26th - March 4th! This was the 2nd year it was hosted by Veronica N. Chapman, and begins the last Sunday in February every year.

Black Children’s Book Week is a global celebration of Black children and the people who ensure Black children are represented in books and other children’s media.
